It’s been a hectic start to the year and I completely overlooked the arrival of Veganuary! So many people make commitments to kick off a new year, and Veganuary is a wonderful experience. It’s a well-run organization that provides all sorts of resources to people who are already vegan, considering it, interested in learning more, or just up for challenge to start the new year.
One of the main obstacles to embarking on a whole month of eating vegan is figuring out what to cook. But Veganuary is filled with resources. When you sign up you get a “celebrity cookbook” filled with all sorts of recipe ideas to try. And the website has a drop-down Recipes tab, divided into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, and Sweet Treats.
Maybe you’re also thinking, “we’re more than halfway through the month though!” I signed up on the 15th, and got the cookbook right away. The sign-up gave me the option when I did of starting to get the daily emails right away, in 7 days, or “choose your own day.” I selected to start right away, but if there is something alluring about starting a new thing on the first day of a new month, how about picking February 1st and doing Vegruary?
On Day Two I got another PDF of their “Budget Meal Plan” and a link to their page “Cheap Vegan Meals.” That day’s email also included links to a shopping list, a list of accidentally vegan foods, and a guide to reading labels as a vegan. The latter two were specifically for the Canadian context, so I’m guessing that the sign up information they collect means you get some customized content to fit your location.
If the “why” of it is unclear, they have resources for your inquiring mind on that front too. The blog portion of their website lets you search by categories. For example, you can find all the content on Animals (such as “How to Help Animals in Ukraine”) or the Environment (such as “How Eating Chicken and Eggs Pollutes our Rivers”) or Health (such as “Can Veganuary Improve Mental Health?”).
I hope this short pitch from me has nudged you in the direction of giving it a try. If you’d like to sign up, I’m going to make it really easy: here’s the link!
If you’re still looking for things to try, have a look at my “Some Ideas to Help You Plan ahead for Meatless Monday” and my “Ten Ideas for Making 2024 More Vegan than 2023” (which applies equally to 2025 in relation to 2024) and “Vegan Meal Planning Three Ways.”
Most of all, enjoy!
Bon Appétit!
